Meet Our Conductor
John G. Mayer
Mr. Mayer received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from West Chester University where he studied trumpet with Dr. Kenneth Laudermilch. He continued his education at Temple University where he studied Choral Conducting with Alan Harler and trumpet with Seymour Rosenfeld. He received his Master in Music degree in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Delaware under the tutelage of Dr. Robert Streckfuss.
Mr. Mayer was a church music director for over 26 years, directing both the choir and the orchestra. He currently teaches General and Choral music at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School in Newark, Delaware. Each year he and his 4th and 5th grade students collaborate with music majors from the University of Delaware to stage an opera, which is staged both at Marshall School and on the University campus.
Mr. Mayer currently plays trumpet, flugelhorn, and trombone in several Oktoberfest bands. He resides in North Wilmington, Delaware.
