Meet Our Conductor
John G. Mayer
Mr. Mayer received his Master in Music degree in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Delaware under the tutelage of Dr. Robert Streckfuss. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from West Chester University where he studied trumpet with Dr. Kenneth Laudermilch. His post graduate work continued at Temple University where he studied Choral Conducting with Alan Harler and trumpet with Seymour Rosenfeld.
Mr. Mayer was a church music director for over 26 years, directing both the choir and the orchestra. He is newly retired from the Christina School District in Newark, Delaware where he taught General and Choral music for 26 years. Each year he and his 4th and 5th grade students collaborated with music majors from the University of Delaware to stage an opera, which was performed both at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School and on the University campus.
Mr. Mayer currently plays trumpet, flugelhorn, and trombone in several German/American bands. He resides in Wilmington, Delaware.
